Well folks, Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m., Ron and I left Athens, GA and headed to Calhoun, GA. We broke the first rule of the Holts' Rules of Travel---we traveled on a weekend. But the newlyweds needed some privacy and we were rather anxious to hit the road. Our trip was very uneventful except Jill, the Garmen, and Map Quest, both let us down and sent us in the wrong direction to the campground. It was a small KOA but with lots of wildlife. We saw fat bunny rabbits, goats and exotic birds. As we were packing up Monday morning, I spotted Mr. and Mrs. Peacock and decided to try and get a picture. Well, Mr. Peacock, being a rather showy sort of bird, fanned his tail for me and did a strut like a Las Vegas showgirl--two steps to the left and two steps to the right, turn around in all directions so everyone can see just his magnificent tail. Then it was off to Dickson, Tennessee. Again we had a very uneventful drive. The manager of the campground was a very nice gentleman. When Ron asked him how to get to the local stores, he replied, "Just go out to the asphalt road". Ron wasn't sure he understood and asked again and again this gentleman replied, "Just go out to the asphalt road". By the way, there was no "cement pond" at the Dickson campground. From Dickson, TN, we headed to Shirley, Arkansas and passed through Clinton, AK to get to our next location which was way up in the mountains--about 10 miles straight up, it seemed. More rain---we actually drove through the clouds at one point, spent the night and then on to Branson, Missouri where we are going to spend the next 5 or 6 days. Lots of shows and lots to do---big-big campground so I'll have more to tell you later and hopefully a picture or two. Hang with me folks, we are on our way and having a great time. Thanks for traveling with us.
What a great picture!
ReplyDeleteEven though you have violated the Ron and Linda travel rules, I am sure that it is worth it to get to this point where you can relax. I hear the shows are great.
I'll be hanging in there with you!
